John Shearman and Anthony Blunt each present alternate explanations for
the emergence of Mannerism in sixteenth-century art. Summarize the arguments
offered by each of these scholars and comment on their relative strengths and
weaknesses. Use relevant examples of 16th-century Italian art and /
or architecture to support your comments as necessary.
